Hello, again!
I want to tell you about our precious Bear, a beagle/basset hound mix. He was our loving 4-legged companion before Buddy, and he left some mighty big “paw booties” to fill!!
Our love affair with Bear began back when my twins were in 5th grade – they are almost 34 years old now! Wow, time flies!
My daughter, Rebecca (Becca), has always had a strong will; she cares deeply for people and is an empathetic person. She feels very strongly about both people and nature; she cares about mental well-being. I say all this to lead into the Bear story. Becca had a crush on a boy in her 5th grade class who shall remain unnamed. She was into boys from an early age! She told me about him as we have always had a close bond and share everything.
One day she came home from school and said that this boy’s family had a dog that they needed to give away; I don’t remember the reason why. We had two dogs at the time; so, we did not even consider taking in another one as an option. Becca asked if we could just go over and look at the dog as a family. I knew she had a crush on the boy, but her dad did not. We talked him into going to see the dog. One evening, we walked over to their house (they lived in the neighborhood behind us) and met and talked with the family.
The dog, Bear, was in a cage in the backyard. They brought him into the house to meet us. He was a beagle/basset hound mix with the ears and snout to prove it! I fell in love right away and so did Becca. And, if I’m being totally honest, I believe my husband did too. Long story short, we ended up bringing him home!
He became a big part of our lives – he was such a good dog! He was the first dog we ever had that would stay in the yard with us while he was off of his leash. He was so calm and good-natured. In this picture, he was lying on the front sidewalk while the kids played football.
I am happy that he got to spend his life with us instead of in a cage. He used to do a little happy dance with his two front legs when we arrived home. I really miss him. He gave us love and companionship for a little over 15 years – he passed from liver problems. He was my Bear, Bear Sunshine.
That’s why we must take the best care of our animal children while we have them – love on them and keep them warm, comfortable, and snuggly. That is why this store means so much to me – our furry companions deserve the best!
Until next time!!
